Went to American Lake with the idea of fishing smallmouth. Couldn't find a fish. But I continued to find school after school of perch showing up on my graph recorder at around the 45 ft level. Why not? So I put on a drop shot rig with a sniper snub on a small hook and brought home a bunch of perch, just bringing home the bigger ones. Fileted, they made a great dinner. Made up my mind that for as long as weather permits, will go out to American and fill my freezer with perch meat. Anyone, if interested, American Lake has more than enough, and really does need culling. The water temp was at 56-58, and the perch were at around 45 to 47 feet in big schools. Sorry, a graph recorder is almost a must.

I fished American two weekends ago and marked fish at 20 feet, which were always rock bass, and 40 feet which ended up being perch, The couple that I caught were 12", big, fat. Had trouble finding bass but finally did at 23 feet in one tiny little spot. I hooked 9 smallies on 9 casts landing 8 of them on a drop shot. The biggest being 3.2lbs.

Caught 12 for the day.

What is a graph recorder? Never heard of it, either has Google.

The perch run from small up to around 12 inches. I only keep the bigger ones so I get decent filets. A graph recorder is depth and fish finder. Headed out again this morning after it warms up a bit.
