11/22/2013 8:12:00 AMI saw those clips at hooked on toys, but I just don't understand how they work, I am going to try again this weekend, and I will take a pic of what the guys at Hooked on Toys set me up with. The problem I seemed to have was it spinning the mainline at the point where it is clipped, when I hooked a fish, the line snapped right where the clip was, gone was the clip, my lure, and 50' of line.

11/22/2013 8:57:00 AMWell Proceed with caution at hooked on toys! Although they are good guys and retain great knowledge of fishing technics and set up's, they are in the business to sell gear too! Take this clip and squeeze it together and the end opens up, and simply hook it to your main line and release the squeeze and it is fixed to you line. It is sooo incredibly simple you won't believe it. My line has never twisted, I know Joe uses it, cause that is where I got the idea from. Like I said before Hooked on is in the business to sell gear and I have no idea of what they set you up with. This works! Just try it out, you can buy a bag of two clips for under five bucks. They clamp onto your main line and thats all there is to it, there is no wrapping or twisting or tying. When you get one and clip it on you will see how it works. It has a middle finger that moves and when you release it with your line in there it creates a bite and holds onto your line. I use 20# power pro braided line and it works on it or mono.

I run my main line out about 75' and I clamp this on my main line and send it down till it thumps the bottom and I bring it up a few cranks. I run this for my third rod since I have only two down riggers.

11/22/2013 1:32:00 PMMcfish, I see how the lead ball would then dangle 1ft or so below your lure/bait/ and bump bottom first. Is there a mono leader or tying lure straight to the 20# power pro? Does the clip stay where you clipped it or tend to slide down the slippery power pro? I could see having to wrap or loop one time around the nose of the halibut clip to fix the position.

11/23/2013 12:59:00 PMI run a snap swivel from the power pro, and clip on my flat fish, or if I am running an Ace, I have a 3' leader or so of mono. Really doesn't matter. The clip stays with out any wraps is my experience. I have never had it slide.

11/28/2013 8:16:00 AMI apologize for butting in on the conversation, but what if... you put a short stiff rod and reel in another holder with your weight of whatever oz you want on the end and attach a downrigger clip to that metal stacking clip in the picture? Then you could use it just like stacking on a downrigger. or even just attach the downrigger clip to the weight you just put on the end of the short stiff rod, you could even leave to top section of the rod off so it wouldn't get in the way. if it worked, the real bonus would be no heavy weight on the line when you were fighting the fish. It would be like a make shift downrigger.
