Fish Princess decided she wanted to do some jigging so I decided to give Cassidy Lake a shot after seeing reports of some success from ilvcassidylake. Never fished crappies before so did all the reading I could and even watched a few videos before heading to the tackle store for jigs, bobbers, bait, etc.

Had an unusual experience heading to the lake. On the ramp from north-bound I-405 to north-bound I-5 there was some road kill in the triangle between the merge lane and the main lanes of I-5. A bald eagle had landed to investigate. As we approached his position, he grabbed the carcass and began to flap his wings in the general direction across the front of my car. What ever animal he had in his clutches was fairly heavy (cat or possum, I think) and he was not gaining altitude very fast. I was stepping as hard on the brakes as I dared without jackknifing the boat and trailer to avoid impact with the national bird! It was a near miss and the eagle clung to his breakfast and beat as hasty a retreat as he could manage.

Got to the lake about 0845 and launched about 0900. Threw everything in the tackle box at them, yet couldn't manage so much as a nibble. Used plain crappie jigs in a variety of colors and sizes, jigs with a float, jigs tipped with bait, bait on a tandem rig on the bottom, bait under a bobber, even casted and retrieved small plugs. Not a bite, scratch, or sniff. Figured we'd at least find a perch or two on the bobber and worm or bait on bottom but didn't manage to coax a bite from them either.

A little early yet, still this was a long way to come for a thorough skunking. At least it was a nice day for a boat ride and I enjoyed a day outdoors with my kiddo!

Tight lines!
