Sunday was the flip side of the coin to Saturday. The day was breezy, but the water was flat and we could at least run the boat without any set backs. Got up and out on the water a little later than Saturday to see what the weather was going to do but still was on the water around 4:30. About identical early action to the day before. Headed down to Rocky Point and had fish on immediately on getting lines set at about 5:00.

First fish came at 40', second at 15', and this pair was nearly a double. Got the lines all out of the fish, net, carpet, and wherever else they stuck in and set back up. My Dad doesn't really do the downriggers so after I got my rod out and set he handed me his already set back. I hook it to the clip, start to drop the ball about 2 or 3 feet then feel a real erratic action. Stop the balls decent and you bet, it was a fish!

Soon the fish is flipping like a gymnast all over the place and taking a major run right after the acrobats. I'm thinking this has got to be a Chelan toad after I've seen kokanee hit and run straight to the surface this year. By the time we get it in the net its rainbow by-catch that I've heard of but not experienced. Kind of thought it was a kokanee at first as the bow looked like a mini-steelhead and was pretty chrome. Great silver color and real healthy fish that had great red meat. You all can play a little "which one of these is not like the others?" with the pic.

Right about as I was getting the rainbow out of the net and on the ice, the other rod danced and Dad got his next Chelan koke. Trolled around Rocky Point a little more to no avail and headed over to the blue roofs with everybody else. Didn't see any schools or fish being caught. Was in a troll line with 5 or 6 guys when 2 boats decided to cut in from either side of us. In such a big lake, I decided to opt out of the traffic... Motored passed afk and waved wishing him best of luck.

Headed up to the monument area around 9 where I marked a couple schools at 40-60' but no luck. Trolled passed Salmonbarry and gave him info on the fish caught thus far. After the monument trolled Manson Bay and sort of found a pattern off the face. Caught one fish about 10:00 on the westerly side of the bay, then had a double on the eastern side of the bay. Marked a large school between the two hookups over about 180 FOW. Mixed up the tackle to get some hits. On the double Dad got his first taste of losing a kokanee and I felt his pain, would have been my 60th koke of the season!

Fish 59 was memorable though and really hit with aggression. It mirrored the rainbow in its fight, it jumped 5-10 times and then took a big run. Finally got it tired and worked it in from 150 yards or so out. Dad almost missed it with the net but did a cool little flip and got it in. Almost had the right to give him a hard time for a long time but now I can only commend him! Trolled through that depth contour one more time and called it a day with a 4 hour drive home. Chelan doesn't seem to be as hot as last year with some smaller fish showing up. The last fish was a healthy 17", the rainbow was 16", and the other kokes 12-14". These aren't fish to complain about, but not the fish everyone got spoiled on last year. Tight lines

Nice job and great meeting you! Thanks for the tips as I got mine down by the condos. I would venture to guess it's the bottom right only by looking at it's eyes and tail.

Fished a little above average downriggeral.... kokaneeslayer slayed! Thanks everyone, and I'm glad you got your first (elusive) Chelan kokanee this year Barry, hope to see you soon and some reports from Moses/Potholes. Trying to get up there myself, so hopefully you blaze the trail!
