Hadn't been to Green Lake for awhile, neither have seen much in the way of reports... but, WDFW had stocked 4000 fish on Monday, so seemed like a "no-brainer". Met Pete on the south shoreline at 5:15 AM, lines in the water by 5:30. Mild weather at 48 degrees at the outset, not a breeze... overcast. Water temp at the shoreline was a warming 62 degrees. Started with Power Eggs on one rig (fl. orange) and half a nightcrawler under a float on the other. About 20 minutes in, float began to bobble... five minutes later, bobber down, solid hook-up and reeled in first fish of about 12". Had several more nibbles on the worm, one more hook-up that lasted ten seconds before the fish jumped and threw the hook. Rest of the morning was bite after bite on the PEs with hook-ups on feisty, 12" fish, mint bright... at about 10:00 I had a hard hit, set the hook and felt a heavy fish... a couple of violet headshakes and the hook came out. Had my limit by 11:00. Pete struggled a bit, caught a nice one of 13" about 7:00,... followed by several bites, then scored his second at 11:00. We left the lake together at 1:30. Don't feel too badly for Pete, he limited at Bitter Lake in an hour earlier in the week. He and his lovely wife, Cherie won't go hungry, I promise!
All morning long the fish were rising, "tailing", taking emerging midges ("Pink Ladies"). Reminded me of my years in the South Sound lowland lakes, flyfishing with my favorite patterns I had learned to tie from the "Patrick's Flyshop" tying manual... the Pink Lady nymph and the Kapowsin special. During mornings like this one, it was common practice to C&R 100 Rainbows and a few Cutts as the fish were gorging themselves on the insects as they hatched.
Saw some big Rainbows splashing about, as well as some real "hogs" of Carp. Going to be some big fish caught at Green Lake through the Spring and then in the Fall!
Very nice to chat with fellow WALaker, AJFishdude and his lady as they walked the lake. PTL!

Nice report, and it was nice to meet and chat with you as well! I would definitely agree with your statement that some bigger fish are going to be caught in the spring and the fall. About a month or two ago I was fishing in-between the 65th St. dock and the rowing stands when I saw what was probably a Rainbow Triploid (or a Brown) of at least 18" and some considerable girth jump about 30 yards out. I bet it was pushing 3lbs or more. Then just last night my wife and I were taking a stroll down there (I hadn't brought any fishing gear) when another good sized fish jumped maybe 10 yards out, just at the bend over by the big dock and concession stand on the northwest side where the path drops straight down into the water. I didn't see the fish, but I saw the ripples and heard the splash, and it definitely had the "ker-sploosh" type sound of something bigger than a stocker. Look forward to seeing you at the lake again one of these days, I'm sure we will probably cross paths again!

Sorry, that should have been northeast side. In between the big parking lot and the rock pile.
