Tough fishing. I fished the evening of the 29th behind the Spokane house. That's a joke at this point. The dam's still wide open, and the current is still a wee bit strong. I had 1 fish chase my crank bait I was throwing in an hour. Threw every piece of hard plastic I had at them, nothing.

I went further down past the public launch and walked down to the bank on a turnout. I've had success in this bay before, but I didn't even get a taker. Fish were surfacing about 20 yards further out than I was casting, out in the seems of the current. I was again throwing plugs, and cranks for an hour with no success.

I then went back towards the public launch and pulled off by the guardrail where the Little spokane meets the big body of water. I jigged the bottom with a 3/8 oz. jig and swirly tail. Hey, it works on Roosevelt, right? Eurica, in 1 hr. I was able to manage a 10" smally (I think) near the shore. It came unbuttoned at the shoreline.

Tomorrow, I plan on going back to the bay I was at early in the am, and jigging more. I think the water temp. may still be a little cool to get fish on the hard plastics. Hoping for better success on the jig tomorrow.

Update. Went out this morning 6/1. fished from 5-7:30. full sun. no bites. Went past to first bay past tum tum towards the Dam. Pulled all plugs and hard plastics at all depths for 30 minutes. There not chasing plugs. Went to a 3/8 jig with 3" minnows, with slow and fast retrieval. No dice. switched to swirly tail grubs. Many colors. everything from swimming them to very slow jig retrieval, nada. Not even a pikeminnow. Anyone who is catching on Long have any insight to how I should approach bank fishing for smallies? Any info will help. Last year I did pretty good behind Spokane house when the faucet shut down at Nine mile and the water level lowered. I'll be going back again this week coming. the warm weather should be getting things moving again.

was there the 31st and caught 1 nice largemouth on the west side about 1/2 an hour boat ride from launch. And that was it for 3 1/2 hours of fishing. (Senko)
u should look me up sometime, we could learn lake together, if your interested in paying Launch fee.

If you happen to be a disabled Vet (30% or more) you can do the paperwork through the WA State Parks and get an ID card that allows you to launch for free. The Ranger station right there by 9 mile dam can help you with the paperwork. A bonus is free camping at all state parks
