Went to Green Lake for some more of that urban/wilderness experience. Met Pete on the east shoreline at 5:00 AM, lines in the water by 5:15. Day went,... slow, hot, slow... Air temp was 50 degrees at outset, overcast, slight breeze out of the southwest... water temp was 66 degrees off the shoreline. Began with fl. orange with a 5' leader on one rig, chartreuse with 6' leader on the other. First hit at about 6:00, reeled in a 12" Rainbow (fl. orange). Nothing until 7:00, when I reeled in another, almost 13" Rainbow (fl. orange again). Then things went dead... no hits, "not even a nibble". By 9:00, Pete was beginning to think that there were no fish left in the lake... (even though we had seen lots of them jumping out in front). We began changing up to different baits, different colors... Pete wanted to use some Power Bait "Mice Tails" I had picked up... BINGO! The next hour he caught three, and I caught two on the aforementioned "Tails". Then the bite slowed again. It took Pete nearly two hours to get his final two, by 11:30. He left the lake about noon, his ailing back getting the best of him. It took me another 45 minutes to get my fifth, and left the lake a bit before 1:00.
All 'Bows were from 10 1/2" to 13", all caught on longish leaders of from 5" to 6', most on red & natural worm Mice Tails.
Saw quite a few fishermen on the 65th St. dock, saw them catching fish too. Big ol' Great Blue Heron flew back and forth between the dock and us, looking for a handout.
Sun came out in it's glory about 10:30, and really began to warm us up. PTL!
