After yesterdays luck at Baker with my girlfriend and daughter, I talked my dad into going back up there with me. We have gone up there together two other times, and god skunked both trips.

Launched out of Swift Creek campground again at about 6am and headed to the same spot as the day before. There were more boats today than I have seen all season so far.

This time we used one rod on the downrigger, and one with 3oz lead. The downrigger rod was set up with a 50/50 dodger and pink squid, and other rod was set up with a chrome dodger with bare red hooks and smile blade. Hooks were tipped with fresh sandshrimp.

We had our first fish on within 5 mins of trolling 35' down on the downrigger. I fight and my dad nets the first fish of the day, a smaller sockeye. Got the rigger back down to 35' and troll the same spot. The fish finder was marking a lot of fish around 25' so i bring the rigger up to 25' and get another fish on at about 15 mins after the first fish. This time my dad fights and I net his first sockeye hes ever caught.

After getting 2 fish in the boat in short order, we thought we had easy limits, but the bite died for us. We trolled the same area many times, and even tried trolling with the main fleet of boats with no luck. The sun was up today, and it was really hot, so I'm thinking that turned the fish off. The whole day, we only saw 2 other fish caught around us. We called it a day at about 12:30 with 2 sockeye in the boat. Not the best day fishing Baker, but I'm glad my dad finally got into a sockeye. Good luck out there.

Good deal you Pops got a nice fish. I took a ride up yesterday afternoon to see about boat launching spots. Talked to some folks, said it was really dead ?

Thanks, he was really happy. I always launch up at Swift Creek campground. The main parking spots are usually full when i get there but you can drive back into the campground and park in the day use areas on the side of the road. It was pretty dead Friday. I noticed when its hot and sunny out, we dont do well. Next time I go and its sunny Im gonna fish until it gets hot then call it because we always waste time trolling around when its dead hoping for the fish to turn on and it never happens. My advice is to get there at dark and fish until 11:00 or so and call it a day.
