Have tried a couple of times to get a handle on fishing for Brown Bullhead (a.k.a. catfish) at Green Lake... we know there are some in the lake. The plan was to try the south shoreline in the dark, then head to the north shore to see if we could entice a trout to bite. Left the house at o'dark-thirty... arrived at 3:00 AM, lines in the water by 3:15... using nightcrawlers for bait. Mild and overcast (temp at outset was 60 degrees... muggy). Nothing at all... Pete showed up at 4:00... about ten minutes later, while we were chatting, my rod was jerked off its support and headed for the lake... scrambled to the lakeside, grabbed the rod and the fun began! Biggg fish on... Violent head-shakes and bull-dog runs... took about ten minutes to get it to the shore... a real hoot on my Temple Forks 8' UL rod... 3# leader and playing the thing in total darkness! Finally beached a Carp of 10# to 12#... popped the hook and let him go. Had several more hits, and landed two Rock Bass, the first a real bruiser of 10". About 5:30, Pete's rod doubled over and a big fish headed out to sea... went into the weeds on the bottom and broke off the leader. Had several more bites, maybe Bullheads? Fish were munching on the worms, not inhaling them.
Just about sun-up, the fog rolled in... we packed up and headed north. Fished Power Eggs for trout for several hours without a bite. Pete left at 9:30, I left an hour later. Looking forward to an afternoon nap! Trout has definitely shut down for now. Water temp at the shoreline still a toasty 74 degrees (although down a bit from 77 a couple weeks ago). Noticed that the water level has lowered significantly. With the shorter days and Fall rains around the corner, the trout will bite in due time! PTL!

Stansjoy, What you caught there are mirror carp not catfish! The one other fish I'm not sure of as Green Lake actually has some tilapia that were introduced illegally, so it could be one of those.
Still, it's fun catching big carp. In fact, flying fishing for carp is now the rage although I think I prefer trout or salmon on a fly.

+1 on SnoKing Carpin' can be a hoot to have on the business end. And I have to agree, that "rock bass" has talapia written all over it. Nice size talapia at that.
