Before the Hex start inching towards the surface, fish a size 12-14 Alder fly. Pick a warm sunny day ,around noon, and as your getting your gear together in the parking lot, notice the large caddis like Alders cavorting around. Before the trout key in on huge mayflies, they readily come to this Northwest favorite. Take a right from the launch and cast anywhere from in the weeds to 25 feet out. The Alder pattern I use is as follows: Body: 3 or 4 peacock herls twisted into a rope and wrapped bend to eye. Hackle: Brown, palmered from mid-point to eye. Wing: Black hackle barbs. I fish it as a dry, but it also takes fish sub-surface. Attention: This lake is truly special! Please take care of it. It hasn't received a plant in 6 years. The Cutts are improving, the Browns are still huge, and the occasional (very big shouldered) rainbow are a west side treat. Bring a camera not a stringer.
