Wanted a change of scenery, so headed north to try Gissberg. Arrived a bit after 7:00 AM, lines in the water about 7:30, on the south shoreline. Temp at outset was a chilly 46 degrees, fog settling on the surface of the lake. Water temp was 54 degrees off the shoreline at 5'. Began with fl. red Power Eggs on one rig, chartreuse on the other. Not a breeze, and the lake surface was a flat calm. Nothing stirring on the surface made me apprehensive about the chances of landing fish today. Nothing for the first two hours... tried spin-casting for a while... nada! Finally, about 9:30 had my first hit, but no hook-up... about twenty minutes later, a hard hit and finally reeled in a feisty 13"Rainbow (fl. orange PE). About 10:30, noticed my line had gone slack, so reeled in to check the bait, and "lo and behold" had an 8" Rainbow on... bleeding from hook into the gills, so put it on ice. About 11:30, another hard hit and reeled in another 13" 'er (chartreuse PE). Had several other hits without hook-ups, but fishing was slow. Left the lake a bit after noon to tend to chores that needed to be done. A bit disappointed with the fishing at Gissberg this day... anticipated better.
Did see about a dozen other fishermen come and go during the time I was at the lake. Several left with no fish, a couple I chatted with had one... all reporting that they were disappointed with the fishing. Did see one fisherman reel in several fish on the northeast corner, but from my vantage point, they appeared to be quite small fish. Perhaps fishing would have picked up in the afternoon as the water no doubt would have warmed a bit as the sun climbed higher in the sky. PTL!
