Went to Beaver lake today to try my luck at the big trout that have recently been stocked. *very* chilly day, temps in the high 30s. Very sunny and windy. Glad I wasn't out on the pontoon, was fishing from the shore instead.

Arrived right around 1pm, fishing Powerbait eggs (pink and orange) with a pretty short leader, about 2 feet off the bottom. Nothing, not even a nibble for about the first hour.

Moved locations a little bit on shore and waited some more. First hit was a pretty nice trout, my guess is about 2, 2.5 lbs. Put up a good fight, and I turned him lose after a quick picture. Looks a little bloody in the picture, but swam away just fine to (hopefully) fight another day.

(this is the part about the one that got away)
Fished for maybe another hour with no additional action. Texted the misses and let her know I was packing it up and heading home. and then, boom! Big hit on the pole. Started to reel it in and could tell this was a monster. I had forgotten my net this trip so was attempting to just breach him up on the shore. I was reeling in fast and walking backwards up the shore at the same time. I saw an easy 3+lb come up on the beach, splash, flip, jump....and then I managed to fall backwards over the park bench! Dropped my pole of course. :) Looked up just in time to see the trout had spit the hook and managed to work his way back into the water. booh :( Easily the biggest trout I have ever caught, er almost caught.
(end of part about the one that got away)

All in all a good time, will definitely be back. The big ones are in there, and I even managed to see it up close.

My setup was a typical trout setup. Sliding egg weights->barrel swivel-> 2 foot leader. Used orange and pink powerbait eggs, all the action was on the orange one. I religiously use Mike's Shrimp oil and today was no exception. I did mix it up a little and added a little pink and white squid looking thing, some freebie rubber lure that I got with my last pole. That combined with the powerbait eggs really seemed to turn on the bite.

Talked with a few other folks today, no one was getting any action. Only saw one other fish caught. Left there right around 3:30.

Tight Lines!

I used the same last night from the park and got a 20" as I was reeling in to leave just after dark. At first I though it was a snag.

Definitely a bleeder... why didnt you keep it? Those bigguns are tasty, red, and FAT. Trim the bellies off the fillets and you have trout bacon. nj. Glad you landed a monster!
