Got there at sunrise & two of my fishing buddies were already casting & catching nearly every cast. I put new line on my reel last night so I immediately rat-nested & had to take off about 20 yards of line. I started w/my magic beat-up barbless jig - landed 1 old/dark one & lost about 5 nice bright chrome ones in a span of an hour.

After being there 90 minutes w/nothing on my stringer, I decided to try one of the cool lures sent to me by Washington Lakes. It hit the water and I had a fish on in less than 2 seconds! (see photo), 2nd cast - another fish on in just a few seconds, 3rd cast - another fish on in just a few seconds! 4th cast - same thing! At this point, everybody around me was looking at what I was using - it was just ON FIRE! I started thinking... "Gee - those guys at Washington Lakes must know something about catching trout!" I used that until I got bored with catching every cast - then started through the gamut of lures to see what worked and what didn't.

My jigs were working for me and one of my buddies and is probably my favorite way of catching them because the motion is exactly like how you would fish for pink or coho salmon - so it's good practice for the upcoming year.

Anyhow, lost a bunch on the barbless hook jigs, threw a bunch back, and both me & Tim (my buddy in the photo) had our limit of 10 fat, bright steelie smolts.

One of the downers is that there are a lot of people coming there now that are catching FAR more than their limit. I saw one guy with over 20 fish on his line and he just kept fishing (see photo of stringer in the water - I counted at least 20 on there). I mentioned to him the limit was 10 and he got pissed off and played the "I don't understand English" card. Hopefully the game wardens read these posts and will pay a visit there soon to stop the poaching.

That lure is a FishCreekSpinner.com lure. I think if you send them a picture of the fish with the lure in it's mouth they will enter you in their contest. Which would be pretty ironic if you won that one, LOL.
As to the ten fish stringer - grrrrr. On the rare chance the guy got a ticket the court will provide him an interpreter at no charge. Again, grrrrr.

10 fish stringer is legal - that's the current limit there. This guy had TWENTY on his stringer!

Way to go on the bunch if successful trips, sounds fun! May I ask, what the heck do you do with 40 plus little planter trout. I eat about one of those a year and are sick of picking through tiny bones. Got a good recipie? You really must eat a lot of fish or have a big family haha. Just curious.

Maybe it was the same guy who grabbed the prime honey hole spot on Wednesday. He grumbled at me and played the same no English card. Based upon the fact that they have over stocked green lake and some lucky people are easily catching their limit, maybe they should allow a limit of 20. Those fish are not going to last real long in there as witnessed by the number that are dark and losing scales. Even so, a rule is a rule and needs to be respected and followed. He probably does not have a license or 2 pole endorsement either. Thanks NE 1 Fission for the poaching/ violations contact info. Let's all return our attention to the joy of fishing.

Hey Snorider - I have them packed in freezer bags 8-14 per pack. I'll take them out and brine the bunch and smoke them.
Aside from being a big part of my winter staple diet, smoked fish goes a long way as gifts, barter, brownie points etc.

Hey Seattle Pat.... Wardens must have read your report because because the Warden was at the lake this morning counting fish, checking licenses, and taking names.
