I got there a little later (7:45) but it was hot. Got a fish my first cast on my beat-up jig. Caught/released 4 before I found a keeper. It seems there were a lot of darker fish, especially early in the morning.

Anyhow, one of the Wa Lakes reader (Phillip) recognized my jig from the photos & we started talking about my recent posts & what was working. I gave him one of my jigs I had just made the previous night and he landed a nice bright steelie smolt in just a few casts (see first 2 photos).

I switched around & tried different lures & colors. Had the best luck w/the jigs and with a wee pearl-back frog Dick Nite. I landed a really big & feisty brown trout (see photos) on the Dick Nite as well - threw him back after the photo op!

My buddy Tim caught/landed THIRTY NINE fish today! Kept 8 really nice and big steelie smolts. They're growing so fast and their flesh is getting redder - they're almost like real steelhead now (what are they eating in the lake?). I limited out by noon.

We also got paid a visit by the Game Warden later this morning. I guess they've been reading the posts! He was totally cool - just checked everybody's license and how many fish were on their stringers.

I know for a fact that they do indeed read the reports. Not to "catch" people, but to get an idea of how fishing is, just like everyone else that logs on here. And if it alerts them to check things like over-harvesting, good deal.

Beautiful brown. I didn't make it out there this morning but another time perhaps. Great fish!

Photo #3 is my 'Ziggy' jig. The nose broke off after the first cast anyhow :(

Seattle Pat; Good job mentioning the poacher the other day. I hope the Warden found him today as well. Just knowing the wardens may be there will hopefully be a deterrent.

Another nice collection of trout, especially the brown. Gee, I hope I can get on your Christmas list for smoked trout. Ha Ha. You must have a large freezer. Good work on getting the Warden out to clean up some of the questionable behavior. Are you pinching down your treble hook barbs too?

Yeah - pinched down the barbs on a rooster tail, kastmaster, a dick nite & a couple jigs. I start using the barbed hooks once I know the quality of the fish in the area.
