I went down to the 3-year old kiddie pond today for first bite. They were picky but I kept changing out lures until one worked, then would change again once it didn't. The most successful lure was a kokanee green/pink dick nite but I pinched the barb so it was a bit of a challenge and I lost a few.

The cormorants were relentless - they came in like a giant naval armada and the fish were freaked. As long as they were in the area, the bite was off and it took a few minutes for the fish to calm down until they started biting again.

The best catch of day was pretty funny. I saw a bright green stringer in the water with a large fish attached. I looked closely and the fish was still breathing, so he must have swam away & ended up there to rest. I rummaged through my tackle box until I found a barbless kastmaster. I threw it out and got the stringer ring on the 1st cast and pulled the fish in! :)

Got my limit by 10:30 with an extra stringer to boot!

kiddie pond, LOL. You and Stansjoy inspired me to write up an article on Green Lake for our December newsletter. It's been published in the articles section.

Oh - forgot to mention in my article. The 2nd photo w/the dead fish - This is a serious pet peeve for me! If you use a lure, you can be selective of the fish you keep. I only had 1 that I didn't want today that I had to keep because the hook went through his gills. If you fish with bait and the fish swallows the bait, keep the fish! He's already dead if the hook is in his guts, and it's YOUR fault for fishing with bait instead of lures if you wanted to be picky!
Throwing the fish back so they die near the bank gives the fishermen serious bad press with the local Greenlake snobs. I can't count how many times I heard people walking by commenting on all the dead fish.

Not to mention it's also incredibly disrespectful for the fish, ecosystem and the code of sportsman good conduct.

Nice going Seattle Pat, I see where you were at, I stuck to my usual 65th St dock,...so sad over there, and yes, the cormorants were vicious!! Never thought of trying that area, but wow, the crowd, and yes, that is so disrespectful of people doing that, polluting the ecosystem with discarded fish,..not good!! Next time, will look for you, again, PROPSS!!

good catch but I have to say that these all look like little steelhead... they're even clipped. Why did wdfw stock the hell out of green lake and not the local rivers??

Nice job Seattle Pat, take advantage of those fish while they are there! I have enjoyed reading your Green Lake Chronicles. And don't let the naysayers (in person or on the website stop you). They are the ones with the issues, not you, so you might as well just let them hang onto their angst while you continue to have a good time!

red beard - a few environmentalist zealots who hate science and your fishing privileges as a citizen of WA, decided to sue the state and the result was the mess we have now. http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/apr2514b/

Thanks Pat for another great report. I can't seem to get away to join in the fun, so I really enjoy the photos and discussion. WOW, it looks like the cormorant population is increasing! It does seriously bother me too when trout are hooked and left to die, but I know the cormorants will not let them go to waste. Have fun out there!

I'm here for 2 more days, then off to Whistler for skiing. During ski season I don't get the chance to fish, but if there's still no snow when I get back, I'll be hitting Reiter for the REAL steelhead! Thanks everybody for reading - if you are at Greenlake the next couple days, say hi if you see me.

Red beard, et. al.... WDFW had to stock the fish in lakes that have no outlet, otherwise the Steelhead, as relentless as they are, will find their way down to a river somewhere and defeat the purpose of the lawsuit. Only lakes in the area with no stream outlets could receive the planted Steelhead.
Have a great time at Whistler, Pat. Have certainly enjoyed your reports. PTL!
