Here is my late report from last weekend at omak lake,

Fished for 2 solid days, we caught 68 total from shore (for the 3 of us) size ranged from 14"-24"+ about 29 of the fish were in the 20"+ range, others were 16-19" and a few 14"ers. (All fish safely released) I caught 16 cutts on lures and 16 on a fly.
Mornings and after noons were kinda slow, (a hook up about every 15-20min) because it was kinda chilly and the sun was out, evening bite is excellent from 5pm-8pm I was getting hookups on a fly every 2 casts and barely 3 short strips, During the day best color of lure that produced a lot of fish was 1/4oz kastmaster is fire tiger color, it produced better than any colors 5-1. As for flies, a olive damsel nymph fly, or a olive stone fly was excellent, produced fish better than Wooley buggers and other flies etc) (Wooley buggers in all black with weighted eyes, sizes 8-10 worked good also all yellow bugger caught fish, red/purple/black Wooley bugger also is good, but not as good as the Demsel and stone flies were). Beer can beach North side has a drop off about 4 feet from shore, good for fishing with lures and flies, (cowpie beach ) south end of lake is pretty much fly fishing only as its too shallow for lures, will get snags on rocks, but you can use small spinners, but south end seemed to produce bigger fish in average than beer can beach,

There was a lot of big monsters swimming the shores on beer can beach late evening , looked like in the 30+" sizes, at around 8:05pm did a last cast from the sandy beach area (beer can beach) and WHAM before I could even set the hook, my 8lb leader snapped on my fly rod like it was a piece of string and I watched it take off, looked to be in the 13+lb fish that was crusing the shoreline, ahh next time I'll catch it, so no trophy fish for me this trip, maybe next time, but still was a blast to catch many big fish, fishing is hot right now, all the fish is cruising the crystal clear water shorelines, nice for fly fishing basically sight casting for them, and watching them attack your flies. This is definitely the top #1 WA lake for lahontan cutthroat trout fishing, worth the 4 hour trip.

Tight lines!

Nice report! Must give Omak a shot someday as I used to fish Independence Lake a holdout of Lahontan Cutt's in California north of the Truckee River drainage. Back in the day I used to fish Pyramid Lake in Nevada also. Early March is darn cold out there but fishing could be phenomenal... Lahontan are one of the prettiest trout I've ever caught and these Omak fish are colored a bit differently but not by much!

Oh nice you fished pyramid lake, that lake holds monsters, the world record of 41lb 39" in 1925 came out of that lake, I read they were average 20lbs in that lake being caught, Try this lake out, it's one of those lakes to try in wa defenetly
