Hiked into Grand Lake for an overnight camping & fishing trip. Heard they had Brookies up to 14" or so there. Started 1pm or so in hot weather and missed a couple but caught two small ones off and on fishing for a couple hours. Saw a roughly 14-15" one along the shore though, so that got me re-envigorated.

Tried again 4:30 or so and missed a bigger feeling one, but caught a third small one. Fishing oddly slowed down in the evening though and had no more bites. All success on a Kastmaster. Tried other similar lures and a few spinners....no luck.

Beautiful out there...tough hike for mediocre fishing, but if you love hiking and fishing it might be worth a try. Timing may have been off a bit with sustained heat many days prior to my trip.

The three little Brookies swam away none the worse for wear. Keep your shame to yourself.

No, cut 2 off or add a smaller hook. They may have swam away but you Messed that ones mouth up. Funny how people think, or don't.

You're a real peach Jimbo. I appreciate your concern about treble hooks in general. I do not appreciate your negativity and suggestion that I do not think. Wrong forum for that negativity...better face to face for personal attacks. I have caught many thousands of fish though and know when a fish has a problem. The fishery in that Lake is very healthy and in Alpine Lakes you know it is good to eat a few here and there to keep healthy controlled populations. We're any fish in any trouble at all, I would have certainly counted them and eaten them.

I'm all for following the fishing rules and maintaining healthy fisheries in the northwest. I don't need your lecture or condescension...but for a general rule to fisherman??? Yes. Don't use treble hooks....de-barb your hooks. It really doesn't affect your effectiveness much at all if you have good technique, and it is safer for the fish. I agree with you there.
