My friend's (Jon) son (Noah) is an avid young fisherman. Some time ago he told me that his one wish was to catch a catfish, so we planned a trip to lake Stickney to accommodate him. Left for the lake shortly after dark. I rigged up a slip-float (with a light), fishing about 5' under the float to the hook. Threaded on a nightcrawler and had him cast about 30' out from the boat launch. Within 3 minutes, the float disappeared under the black surface of the lake, and he landed his first, a 10" Brown Bullhead, a.k.a. "catfish". Action was pretty consistent, and in two hours Noah landed five Bullheads, from 10" to 14", also losing several on the way in. By 10:30, a chill had settled over the lake, Noah was shivering, so we headed home. Great fun, glad to help a young fisherman accomplish an early goal. Took the fish home and showed Jon and Noah how to fillet them, and sent them off with a bag of nice fillets!

Love it. Fun to have a bullhead report during salmon season. Good for him and good eating.

Nice! If the smoke clears in a few weeks I'm planning to camp along the Snake below Lower Granite, hope to get into some channel cats.
