It has been quite a while since the Tin Cup has felt or seen a body of water and since my last 4 guided fishing trips have been cancelled due to blown rivers, saw my window of opportunity open yesterday morning when I awoke at 7 am! Quickly had a cup of coffee and removed the boat cover~ had everything pretty much ready to go as I had run the motors a week ago just in case I got a chance to get her out so wouldn't have to struggle to get started at the boat launch.

Got to the Atlantic city launch at 8:30 and was fishing before 9am starting straight across on the West side of Mercer island in about 115 feet of water. Got a few new set ups I wanted to try out so started with Anglers West mini school of fish with a double D pink dodger and scent chamber behind that attached to a pink mini cut plug filled with chopped herring. Saw bait balls but in my past experience this time of year, staying between 15 and 25 feet with my trolls at 100 feet behind the boat.

After working my way north and then south again, decided to switch over to something I picked up at the sportsman show with was a spin drift set up by Mack's lures in fire tiger with a 3" gulp smelt minnow attach slathered in blood tuna/anise scent. Worked my way south and out along the channel before turning East towards the mouth of the Cedar. Ran into a few boats out there fishing and a couple guys in a small boat with electric motor held up a nice looking 20"+ that he got at 25ft with a hootchie!

Switched over to that for a while but still no takers so finally had to head in around 1:30 as I had someone to pick up at the airport at 2:30 pm. All in all for me still just a great day to finally get out on the water with everything working marvelously on the boat with no set backs that can usually happen on a new years maiden voyage!

See you on the water!

Glad to see that the Tin-cup is seaworthy and ready for the 2016 fish-o-ramma. Barry, would love to catch up with you out there on Lake Washington.

I have only been out twice in the past six weeks with only 2 kokanee caught and released as they were tiny and covered in kokanee herpes.

Thanks guys! @ Mike10gs- I am no expert by any means on this fishery but some people do well all year round but it will definitely get better once the temps start to get over 50 degrees and the sockeye smolt move into the lake.
@rseas~ yes for sure- just shoot me a PM when you think you can make it down here and we'll see if we can 'hook up'!

@salmonbarry- I just learned about kokanee last August and was able to get on a few. Now I'm hooked on them. I have a 11.5ft Coleman boat that I got for free years ago And just got minn kota for it! Now bought a 17ft marling. Old but excited to get it ready for fishing. Took it crabbing did good on the sound! Hope to meet many new people!.
