I actually started my day at Ketchum. Did a few circuits of the lake and landed a small bow, that put up almost no fight. Decided since I was close enough I would pack up and head to Goodwin. Started fishing there maybe 10:30ish. Creel checker was there at the launch. I have never seen them at a lake. She said they were checking on the balance of the trout - bass population. She did tell me that for those that had fished already and already come in, it had been a bit tough.

I was running 2 lines, one long line and one on the downrigger. Things started off very slow. I think I had 1 drive-by on the downrigger line, and that was it for the first few hours. On the long line I ran a wedding ring, 50/50 Dick Nite, Needlefish, Wicked Pete's fly, and finally at the end switched to a green Doc Spratley. On the downrigger it was a green Doc Spratley. The downrigger had a Mack's Double D Dodger all day, where the long line started with a mini gang troll, but eventually it had a Mack's dodger as well. Played around with weight - set back length on the long line all day, where as on the downrigger is was mainly just chasing marks on the sonar.

After a few hours of trying to figure out what was going to work, I think I finally got dialed in, and couldn't keep the fish off. At the end of the day I landed about 10, and long line released another 4. For some reason today I just could not get the larger fish to bite, as everything was 12-13 inches, but very fat and healthy. All fish were released to fight another day.

I did see at the dock when I was pulling out of the water that someone had cleaned their fish right there, and left what looked to be 3 fish heads that would have 16-18 in rainbows. So it looks like someone found the larger fish.

Yea about 1.5mph according to the GPS on the Lowrance. A few times I would be a bit under, a few times a bit over, but as close to 1.5 as I could keep it. A month ago no faster that 1.25 seemed best. The Doc Spratley I was using was a size 10 in green, I think next time I am out I want to try a little larger, maybe drop to a 8 or even a 6 if I can find one for the downrigger line. I was using the rubber cored lead weights, I think at the end I was at a 1/2 ounce probably 50-60 feet back (pretty long). I figure that put that line somewhere between 7-10 feet down. The downrigger was anywhere from 10-25 feet. only a few on that line and they came from 10-15 feet down. Quite a few large marks showed 20-25 feet down, but I just could not get those to bite. The leader coming off the dodger I really shortened up, not much more than 12 inches to get more action from the fly. That more than anything seemed to help the most.

Sorry, didn't tip the flies at all. No juice/scent on the fly, except towards the end I did put some Pro-Cure Rainbow trout gel on the downrigger line to see if that wouldn't entice a bite from a larger fish, it didn't.

I think I saw you when you came back to the launch. I was putting a brand new 22ft Thunder Jet in the water for a test run when a guy with a go pro on his head paddled up.

That was me, and I remember your boat. Congratulations on the new boat, that thing looked beautiful! When you are in a kayak you notice larger boats around you! (and hope they notice you)

That was my buddies new toy! Too rich for my blood but if you see a Blue 19ft Duckworth with a Yamaha its probably me. I take my wife out to Goodwin a lot since its so close and has good fishing. I do watch for kayaks!
