Our first day fishing 2016. Hooray! Some years upon returning, it feels like we've forgotten how to cast, net, etc, but not today. No sore hands or wrist or goofy casts. Interesting how it felt like we'd not been on hiatus for nearly six months!

Air temp about 55 but stiff wind, only slowing near quitting time. Water temps seemed much warmer than past years at this time. Will have to go back and look historically. Today 62 to 63.5 water temps.

The Park was hugely busy. People all over the water surface and shorelines and campsites. Odd for so early in the season.

Within the first five minutes, P. boated the first trout. Then K., then me. Tied! We did well in the main lake on one of our two trout routes and we also picked up three fish in the lagoon. Aside from the wind everything was good today except for the soup we had on the BBQ for lunch. Ugh. Good thing we made that last minute stop for candy bars....sustenance.

We all lost at least three fish and the biggest too. I lost a fish and a lure on crappy old line. Two weeks of hard fishing in MN definitely took a toll on my line. It was mirco-shredding. Dangdest thing to see. Gotta restring all reels ASAP. We each had 4-5 bumps that never buttoned-up. Lots of action on a variety of crankbaits. No need for powerbait or flies.

After four wonderful hours, we ended in a tie - five all. P. caught and released five trout. K. four trout and 1 pumpkinseed. Me, four trout and 1 largemouth bass. Once back in cell range, got a call that Mom was hospitalized. Thank goodness for those few hours of healing/fishing.
