I picked a great weekend to drive out to the Ellensburg area to do a little fishing, picnic, and pick up some fruit on the way home.

We arrived at the Easton ponds around 0930, it was bright, sunny, and warm but not scorching hot quite yet. I was soaking two different depths of floating power eggs, since the water was still a bit green and cloudy I opted for the bright chartreuse sparkle eggs.

No bites during the first half hour, but we did get to see what appeared to be a small river otter enter and ferry sticks and branches across the pond.

Then within a period of an hour or so I was fortunate enough to land 4 decent sized rainbows between 10-12", they all fought well and hit hard. I caught a 5th which turned out to be a 5" smolt brilliantly silver, with a thick jawline and beautiful banding along the sides and promptly released him - was this a leftover Coho perhaps? I would have taken a picture but I really wanted to make sure he got back in the water and survived.

We then took advantage of free parks day and headed over to Lake Easton Park and had an amazing picnic overlooking the lake. Anybody fish Lake Easton from shore lately? It seems big enough that you'd need a boat to really get at it. I know I'd definitely make the drive again, but are there any decent fish in there?

tight lines!

Muskrats look like small otters and take wood to their nest under a bank. They dig holes under the water line and up to an above the waterline den. Just a thought
Where are the ponds in location? I can find the lake on a map but not them

The ponds are on the north side of the freeway just off of exit 71 going East. So if you take the exit and head over the overpass on Tree Farm Road to the north side of the freeway, then you can hang a right and it'll take you right to them.
