I am happy to say I am no longer a “Kokanee Virgin”. I have always wanted to catch kokanee but never knew what to do or how to catch them. So I watched a ton of kokanee videos on YouTube and learned what I could. We went to Deep Lake and was on the water by 05:30 and had my first fish within 5 minutes. I only expected to catch 1 or 2 fish since I was still learning. But we caught our limit in 90 minutes. Most of the fish were 12" or a hair under.

I trolled a kokabow dodger in watermelon color with a homemade pink hootchie on a 10” leader, this was the hot color for the day having caught 7 out of the 10 kokanees that we kept. We were trolling in about 100 feet of water and I could see fish on the fish finder down at 60’. I dropped the down riggers at 55’ and trolled at 1.2 – 1.7 mph and that was the magic numbers for us. I used garlic scented corn. We ended up catching 14 total fish but lost a few at the boat. Weather was perfect and my son was grinning ear to ear as was I. I am looking forward to our next trip.

Beautiful fish! Your son is probably hooked for life on fishing. I started taking my son when he was 4 years old. He is now 62 and last weekend my wife and I were invited over to his house for a fresh Chinook dinner.

great report and story! Thanks as I wondered what size those kokanee would be this time of year! How was the boat launch?

great to see the "kid" with dad and hooked on fishing - beats all the other krap they can get into these days. re- the
launch ramp: is there a dock ?? have to have one cuz the wife's new hips are giving her fits and she can't climb
around much to get into the boat - hate to have to take a 6' step ladder.

One of my favorite lakes in grant county and one of the best to learn how to catch Kokanee. Great work!!

Yes there is a dock, a little small but it will handle 1 boat at a time.
