Moses Lake (Grant County) Fishing Report

I launched at Blue Heron with a buddy after we were finished with our Easter meals to see if we could find some spring smallies. We motored over and started throwing small jigs and grubs.

It took some time but we had a couple followers to the boat, then a couple hits, and my buddy caught one on a yamamoto grub we guessed was a chubby 2 lbs. After that he got a slightly smaller one and I got 2 that were maybe a pound on a 3" pumpkin grub and 1/8th oz gamakatsu.

Summary: slightly breezy evening, 2 guys caught 4 smallmouths 1-2 pounds, all fish were caught on grubs retrieving slowly and jigging over 2-8 feet of rocks. Will be back soon when the water gets a little warmer.

I haven't fished Moses in about 20 years. I remember one time I was fishing a grub in the rocks, along with 3 other boats in the club at a club tourney. I got a bite and I sent the hook. A little baby Smallie came FLYING over the boat and back into the water some 30 feet away, still hooked, and I got him in the boat. The fish was about 6" long. EVERYBODY had a big laugh about that. LOL

Lack of money since I retired. Then the cost of gas and everything else went up too much after the feasco in New Orleans with the hurrycane shortly after I retired, and all that, that raised the price of stuff too much for me to do anything much away from home. Haven't been east of the mountains since Aug. 02, and had to replace the motor on the boat as the original motor went bad on Memorial Day that summer. Also now I have to take care of the dog, he's 10 1/2 years old now and has a couple problems.

Actually the last time was May of' 03. I forgot I went to the Bass Club Jamboree over the Memorial weekend, 1 year after the motor went bad while going across the lake to go night fishing. Had to get back to the launch before dark so I'd be sure to get back. I ran the motor at full throttle, then decided to slow down because I figured with my luck it'd blow up and hit the back of my head with the powerhead pieces and kill me. lol
