Just found this site and thought I'd try a report. Recently moved to Washington and am trying to figure out salmon fishing. I have a 19' hewescraft jet with downriggers, kicker motor and most everything else. Went out of Boston Harbor and fished the cooper point to south squaxin island and back to Dana's passage area last week. Used downriggers with flashers/herring or flashers/hoochies from 30 -100'. Have never managed to catch a salmon, but I seem to have the dogfish fishing pretty well figured out. When your desperate, even the little sharks are fun for me. After a little research I think maybe to deep for coho and will try shallower this week. Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated for this novice. Especially tips on fishing the tide change. I mainly fish out of Arcadia Point or Boston Harbor. Thanks for any info and glad to hear somebody's catching fish.

I dont fish down there im normally up in area 8-2 and 9 but recently salmon fishing has been sucky so dont get down. but it sounds like your doing the right stuff just try changing your speed around. try following any charter boats you see they know what they are doing most of the time. your kinda right about being to deep but sometimes you have to fish really deep its hard to tell sometimes. try using every color size of lure and flasher. i normally have alot of luck using a green fish scale flash with the other side silver with a green hoochie. but good luck hope you figure out the salmon

hello, if you go to salmonuniversity.com, they have area specific advice for all salmon.
An hour before or after high/low tide is feeding time for salmon
If I'm downrigging for coho with somebody, I'll have a cut plug herring on a jet diver, with a rigger running a flasher and a squid at 20-50'.
The mouth of Nisqually will be seeing fish for a while, the chum fishing will really pick up soon.
Usually troll 2.5-3mph

The Area 13 coho are a tough nut to crack. I have spent many hours fishing for them this season and have a total of one fish in the boat. Sometimes it seems it would be easier to just reach out and grab them by hand or hold my net out and wait for them to jump in to the net. Guys do catch them though. Seems most of the fish I have seen caught are by guys who cast in to the schools of coho. I don't know what they are using but I can guess probably Buzz Bombs or other fish-like jigs.

Hey riverrunner, I was at a meeting with Tom Nelson as a guest speaker, he mentioned that if you are hooking into dogfish your boat/downrigger system is probably putting out a positive charge. You may need to put some zincs on your boat/motor or replace the ones you have. Keep at it and good luck!
