Went to the pier last night and had a Britney moment. Around 2:30 P.M. I had walked the pier and talked to the regulars who said it has been very very slow. All they were seeing was pinks and the fish were not cooperating. One said go get your pole and I replied "after I do the job I promised my dad I was going to do." About a hour later I returned.

My target species WAS pinks. Was using my 9 1/2 foot rod that I usually use for trout. This rod has no real back bone to it so I'm going to get into trouble if its over 6 pounds (at least thats what my head was telling me). Pink buzz bomb number one snaped the line (kink in the P-Line that I had just bought). Put a second one on and started casting.

About 45 minutes later thump bang rod bends and I'm thinking pink I finally got a pink. Well short story longer. Somebody dared to call it a king and I disagreed until we saw the tail pop up on the surface. What felt like 20 minutes was more like 10 with me nursing the fish in on 8 pound line. He made a couple of nice runs that made the fish look bigger than it was. My poor rod was bent and I was spent by the time we got the fish into the net.

I'd like to thank the netter and the coaching crew. And better yet the low number of pier gawkers for making the landing possible.

Skip icing the fish my back needed it even more so. Fish weighed in at about 16 pounds.
