My partner, and I, vertical jigged 1 1/2 and 2 oz Kandlefish metal jigs (Yellow Bird Products) while drifting for chinook salmon along the kelp in 52-59 ft of water at Freshwater Bay. We fish two primary finishes that really stand out in the water...fluorescent green back/pearl white belly and glow-in-the-dark. Pearl white works well also. Most fish were about half way down. We brought ten fish to the boat and kept four, averaging 21-23 lbs. Nine were hatchery kings and the only native was 45 inches long...released, while still in the water. Conservative weight estimate was 45-47 lbs. Great fight that lasted 35 minutes on stout tackle. Two photos are included. One shows the large native, in the water, with the Kandlefish sideways in its mouth. The other photo shows one of the kept hatchery kings that my partner caught.
