It was cool and a a little windy as we launched the boat at Manchester. I was fishing with my son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Connie, in my son's new Alumaweld. We headed south to Colvos Passage and dropped a couple of crab pots on the east side. We then headed over to the west side and started trolling at different depths. I was using a white, glow in the dark, squid with a hearing strip behind a flasher. Connie was using a small pink squid behind a small white flasher. Connie hooked up with a salmon but it became unhooked before it arrived at the net. We fished a few hours and decided to check the crab pots. Don had a terrible time getting the big Yamaha Engine started. Actually, it would start just fine but would die as he tried to put it in gear. Finally, he did get it in gear and we headed for the crab pots. We didn't want to chance shutting off the big engine so far from the ramp, so we managed to pull the crab pots with the big engine still in gear. There was a strong wind by now and the entire passage was rolling with white caps. We headed up towards Manchester and dropped the pots again. Don thought we could probably get back with the little Merc trolling engine if needed. It was a little less windy on the west side of Blake Island. We dropped our salmon gear again and trolled south almost to the Southworth Ferry Dock. The wind was getting so strong it was difficult to control the boat with the small engine. We decided to quit but just then my rod started shaking pretty good. We landed a nice Humpie. All in all it was a good day inspite of only salmon and 6 keeper crabs. Back home, I barbecued the salmon while we picked and ate all the crab we wanted, The Pink was pretty good off the barbie -- not sockeye, coho or king but still pretty darn good.
Don called the boat dealer to get some info on how to adjust idle speed. You don't just do it with a screwdriver anymore -- ya gotta hook it up to a computer to see what the problem is. Mean while the boat is out of commission:(

You have to check the gas filter. Maybe some water was in the tank, it accumulates when was not in use for a while, and it was the problem, easy fix.
