Made it out one more time to finish off what has been a killer week of fishing. I'm headed to the east coast for about ten days, and I'm afraid the hot coho action will be over by the time I return. Hopefully I'll be back just in time to catch up with them in the rivers maybe...

Anyway, I was mostly playing guide today as I've been talking up the silver action and my dad and a buddy finally got themselves out of bed early enought to get in on the action. I gave this a five because despite coming up one short of our limit (5 of 6) the action was hot and my "clients" for the day each got in to some nice fish.

Lines in the water by 6:45 and within 20 minutes both rods are bouncing. My buddy Zach pulls in his first salmon of his life, not to mention the best fish of the day. The thing was an absolute SLAB. Not much longer than the others, but easily weighed twice as much.

Got one more shortly after that which gave my dad his limit. After that the action got hot, unfortunately our fish catching skills got ice cold. We literally missed ten fish in a row including another double. Rods bouncing and popping out of clips, but missing the fish over and over again.

FINALLY, after a very frustrating hour one rod goes off and it's time for the guide to get his shot, so I grab the rod. As my back is turned the other rod goes off and we end up getting fish 4 and 5 in the boat. After that we gave it another bit, but with the sun up it had really seemed to slow down. Off the water by 9 so dad could go to work. All in all a very rewarding day. It was great to put some other people on the fish.

A question: I've heard alot about people getting bigger fish in the 12-18 pound range, but I have just not been able to find anyting bigger than 10 or so. Any tips on finding some hogs? I guess it won't matter this year because I don't think I'll have another chance to get out with the boat coming out this evening, but just wondering if there's something specific for catching bigger fish.

The bigger fish usually come a little later with the 'B' run that we get after this 1st push of silvers~ I have got my biggest silvers either out of the salt or rivers towards the end of September or the 1st couple of weeks in October. I am not an expert on this but I have pulled out a few in the 12 to 15lb range later in the season.
