You know things are going to start tough when you ask your wife “do you have your license?” and she says “no” and is not joking. Next time I’ll remember to ask that question before we leave home, not when we are on the water.

So JoAnn got a pleasant boat ride today and I got handicapped into fishing just one rod.

We launched out of Shilshole and had (rod – single) fishing at 6:50am. HT was 6:37, LT 12:19, not ideal tides, but hey, you fish when you can.

The morning was deader than dead, none seen caught, but I did mark good fish and bait, as well as saw a lot of herring swirling today. We went from Meadow Pt to West Point, to the Mid-Channel Buoy and over to Four Mile Rock. Even saw the Coast Guard trolling two rods off their 50 ft patrol boat. Nothing, nada, zip. I ran my flashers/hoochies from 55 to 95 ft on the DR with herring strip. We did have to deal with a lot of shakers today, caught at least a half dozen.

At 11:50 we were back at Meadow Point to fish the LT slack and within ten minutes I hooked into a pig at 55 ft on the DR, trolling 3.2mph. Fish hit hard and looked to be a solid hook set. Came to the surface, thrash, jumped, threw the hook. Are you kidding me? We fished until 1pm and called it a day.

Back at the ramp the fish checker reported about a fish per boat. They must have had two rods.

Go Pro image is of the quality fish that hit at LT. Fish came and slammed the hoochie, didn't hook up, and came back and did it again. It was the only quality fish in all the footage I took. Tons of shakers though, little squirts.

BTW, the new Ugly Stick rods worked great, much better than the Shimano TDRs.

Nice report Mike, thanks for posting. Too bad your fish pulled a rapid evac on you. Nice photo with the GOPRO nevertheless! Better luck next time and tight lines.

Mike, did you move from spot to spot or troll your way there?

Oneshot, keeping your wife's license with yours is pretty smart I must admit. Since she only fishes when you do.

What does the GoPro have for a light source when filming at depth? Isn't it dark at 50' and below?

We trolled Meadow Pt to West Point, ran to 4 Mile Rock, trolled back to West Point, ran to Meadow Point to end the day. Beautiful weather BTW. The GoPro was run at 55 ft on the DR and with blow back I would estimate actual depth to be around 45-49 ft. So natural light source only. You can see the light transition a bit. When I make the video of all this it will be more obvious. (except some of the footage is upside down, opps) I am thinking the next mod will be an underwater light source, that will have to wait until spring though. One more trip and we will be done for this year trolling deep fish.

ya know Toni the salmon catch'n expert said the other day "dont leave fish" .... i've been live'n by that all year with fuel costs ... and it's made my catch'n better ..... i find bait ... most times i find fish there too and i run around till i can find bait and fish .... i troll ... i love troll'n ... my boats are all set up to troll ... but down here try'n to work tides rips 'n bait 'n cabbage it gets purty tight in places and you can only troll at certain times/conditions ... as ya'll know tide change is always a time you want to be rods in ... but try'n to stay with bait/fish at 2 or 3 mph is a lil tuff .... so why fight it and burn fuel ??? ... i have other weapons ... the lamest cheap piece of %#@& jig is my fav and 1st go to ... but i'm not afraid to mooch a whole herring ... i dang near alllways pick up 1 of those fish feed'n under the bait as soon as i pull up 'n drop in .... when tides are wimpy i like to find bait out in the deep water say like right across from the nisqualy launch .... 'n break out the meat rod ... and every year .... year in 'n year out this is how my biggest fish of the year is taken .... i know the purests with their noodles 'n 6lb test are choke'n gag'n 'n puke'n at the thought of a broom handle of a rod biggg fat line upto a lb of lead and a reel built like the wench on the trailer buttttt ... have you ever seen the size of the fish that go up the nasty or the deschutes !!??? .... just say'n .... as much fun as troll'n is ... run'n/clear'n 2 DRs/poles and drive'n the boat isnt very relaxing ... and even tho my electronics are old junk ... i do get a rush watch'n my jig drop threw the bait 'n a big mark come up outta nowhere 'n nail'n it .... eww had a lil shiver .... GL keep try'n ... DOG

What is the transition depth, where the light fades out? The light source is much like night vision or something. By the way, I think I hooked that fish that unbuttoned for you yesterday.
