Tough, but fun day on the water! JPJames and I tested out the new downriggers I got in the off season and installed for the first time! As well as a fish finder! We fished hard after work on the south point of Shilshole area. Had a couple good solid hits that popped the riggers, but nothing was sticking but some flounders. Had a flouder come up to 60' to hit my bait in 160' of water...it was a mystery. We used green splatter back hoochies and some coho killers to no avail. Trolled all depths from 20-120 of cable and in water from 75 to 250. Tried everything we know except dynamite!

Highlight of the trip was being in the Small lock on our way home and a harbour seal was in the lock with us. 3 feet from the boat, then it decided it wanted to attempt suicide, by climbing out the back of the lock to the salt side and jump the 30' down! SPLASH!

Anyway, better day than sitting in the office, worse day than slaying hawgs and heading in early!

Tight lines,
kgowens

You forgot about the sockeye mocking us in the lock... Still open for tips from anyone who fishes this area - my knowledge is all in the San Juans. Any hot areas around this time of year? Depths to fish? I've struggled finding much on the forums.

Try across at Jeff head and I would start early early early and maybe start up high 30' and 40' and move down 10' every hour after the sun hits the water

Thanks Salmonbarry, we will definitely give that a try. Kings hit up high as well? I've seen it before, but most of the San Juan kings hug the bottom.

Thanks Salmonbarry, we had thought about heading over to Jeff's Head, but we weren't sure how my boat was going to run...now that we have more faith in Lil Bud Rider, we will be headed there next!
