We left the dock in Everett a little before 8AM in heavy fog. Just past the entrance to the channel there were commercial crab pots all over the place, they do not have anything standing up; only laying flat on the water so are very hard to see with only about 20' visibility in front of the boat. Anyway having to run only about 8 miles per hour we did not get lines in the water just past Mukilteo until 9AM. First fish caught at 35' and then nothing for the next hour or so till we hit the Shipwreck, then managed to get 3 nice ones by noon. Downriggers at 70-80' with red racer flasher, white hoochie with herring strip. If you go out in the fog watch out for those damn crabpots

Good report. We're going out tomorrow but I'm planning to launch at Mulk. Going across 4 miles of open water in that fog scares me. Some of these guys blast around in the fog like it wasn't there. I usually launch at Everett. I hear you about the crab pots. They are mostly on the right side going out they keep putting them further into the channel. I've gotten so I'm clear over on the left side next to the green buoy going out. You would think it is starting to be hazard to navigation. The USCG cant miss it, their base is there.

Yah those pots have been there a couple weeks. One of my buddys hooked his outdrive on them. Some have the main float with a rope 5 feet long and another float on it. They went between the floats and had to cut off the extra float and re tied to the main float. I dont think i would have bothered tieing it back up. Drives me crazy why they put the pots right in the path of all the boats coming in and out of the marina.
