Four of us headed out on a beautiful Sunday morning from the Edmonds sling for Lings. Got a 20ft Boulton last summer so finally have a boat that can make the trek to Possession. First stop, load up on Sanddabs. Little easier said than done, but we managed fill our makeshift livewell cooler.

Hit the bar around 9:30 with about 40 other boats. We got one hit right away then nothing. Moved around some, and another hit and a miss. Now it's lunch time, and I'm thinking this fish and chips thing isn't so easy, and not seeing anyone else hooking up. Tide change, so we try a new area and BAM, my buddy gets one on, then next to me another buddy has one on too. Big boys! First one measures 34" and in the box it goes. Next one is 38", dang too big...so back down he goes. Good thing for gps, so we make another drift, but current is running hard and we fly over our marks. We start up the kicker and start backtrolling to keep the lines vertical, and next drift. Bam, another double! This time it's my turn, and we bonk two cookie cutter 27" Lings.

Back at it, then we wrap some lines in the trolling motor prop and that's all she wrote. Wind picked up pretty good and we called it a day with 3 for 4 keepers. The 34" coming in at 16lbs. Not bad for our first Ling outing.

Thanks for the report! Making me stoke for this Sunday, going to try out Posession for the first time and Ling fishing for the first time as well.
Hope the weather will be decent for my 16ft center console. May I ask for a good spot to catch sand dabs around Mukilteo or Edmonds? I'm not familiar with area 9. If it's not too windy I plan to launch from Mukilteo and its a horrible launch I've heard too. Hopefully there will be some Lings left for us this Sunday lol!

Look for sand dabs in 60 to 90 ft. of water on the east side of Possession north of the bait box.

I've caught Dabs just 100 yards from the Mukilteo launch in about 100 ft of water. Boat launch there is ok if you have a friend along to pull back out In the boat while you get the trailer in the afternoon. When the chop picks up it get's a little tricky. Good Luck Khuong!

Thanks all for the tips on sand dabs! I have a friend to help with the launching/retrieval otherwise I would not attempt to do it alone the first time there:) if we can't catch sand dabs then it will be whole herring and lead head curly jigs. Will report later, thanks!

Had a good first Lingcod fishing outing this morning at Possession. Came to the Mukilteo dock at 5, saw several guys fishing for shiners so we joined them and got about 7 plus 6 more as a "gift", thank you good sir!
With a cooler full of live bait we headed out to Possession point, sea was almost glass smooth. Dropped the line in near the fish haven spot and got one almost immediately, he fought pretty well and had several runs before landing in the net. 23 inches so back he goes after a couple pics. We then continue to head out to the east side green buoy where the other boats were congregating, got some tugs but nothing so we head back to the spot where I got the first Ling.
My buddy got a pretty big flounder and I got my second Ling, followed by another flounder. The second Ling was just legal so I kept it, beautiful beast.
We headed back at 10:30 and got "interrogated" by the warden lol.
What a great first Lingcod trip, considered myself very lucky.
