10/2/2009 7:56:00 AMI guess that's one way to catch them. At least you're honest and admit that basically you are snagging these fish ("feeling the fish FLOSS the hook") , but since it's in the mouth you think that's o.k. Hopefully the state will restrict leader length soon to three feet.

10/2/2009 2:25:00 PMFlossing a fish yes....Obviously salmon swim with there mouth open and any angler would set the hook if they felt a slight tug or something wierd feeling at the end of there line. Its not my fualt that im knowledgeable and know where the fish are and how to fish for them. So if you gonna pretty much accuse me of snagging fish then you can spend all day tossing a hook back and forth without catching anything. My leader length is at 5 to 6 feet for the nisqually cause you have to think the water is kinda clear. Lol man you mind as well fish on a boat and drift salmon eggs if you want to put it that way.

As far as flossing is the only way to catch fish in the Nisqually, that is just plain wrong .While I don't fish rivers for salmon very much ( I prefer them in the salt while they are still hungry) in the last month people I was with on the Nisqually were indeed catching fish using eggs and a fairly short leader (3 to 31/2ft.)from shore. And a close friend (tribal, by the way) using a blue fox stuck two on first casts, you could see the fish turn to attack lure. I have also seen a fisherman using float and eggs with yarn nail a nice one in front of me while I was photographing 1st Salmon ceremony at Wa-He-Lut tribal school at Frank's Landing last year. The beginning of the king run folks were casting and trolling herring at the mouth to good advantage as well. I personally don't find flossing an ethically rewarding way to fish, but people are free to do what they think is right, legality is questionable. bob r

10/2/2009 6:12:00 PMThis flossing/snagging topic is really getting old, just get over it. If the hook is set in the mouth what difference does it make, we are all drifting bottom and that is not illegal. I rarely hook fish other than in the mouth using a 4-5 foot leader. I've seen people using 3 foot leader snagging fish on the side/tail bottom and still keeping them and that is wrong. Let D-wizzle enjoy catching his fish and congratulate him and thank him for sharing his report. Thank you D-wizzle for sharing your report and keep it up.

10/3/2009 11:07:00 AMd-wizzell sounds like you had fun. Thanks for the report and well put kinghunter. I do not fish the rivers anymore got tired of people being all over you anytime you hooked into a fish. I will stick to my bass fishing and good luck to you guys down on the rivers.
