Another beautiful day for Steelhead (they all are). We launched the boat at Couse Creek in Hell's Canyon at about 1:00 pm, and decided to fish a different location, so we ran upriver a few miles, just past Buffalo Eddy. Put the lines in, plugs are scented with shrimp and we are doing a slow back troll in a good looking strech of water, running about 8' deep. The plugs are really doing their thing, the river flow is good, and the action on the rods tells us that we should connect any time. After about 20 minutes my rod starts a violent throb, and I have a steelhead on, don't know how long it took to land, but we drifted quite a ways down the river before Barb Slipped the net under him, we took a picture, and released it to continue the journey upriver.
Now it was Barb turn, got the net washed out, the lines squared away and we are back in business, well after about 30 minutes the TR-1 autopilot on the 8 hp Honda started malfunctioning, and I am busy with that, and at the same time trying not to get the lines tangled or run over, I've got the boat angle all messed up when Barb yells "Fish-on", at that point I shut the trolling motor down, and just enjoyed watching her play this nice Steelie, she played it until it came in on it's side, and I netted it, we took the picture and released it, what a pretty Steelhead. We decided to give it up after this short time of fishing, I needed to get the boat home and fix the TR-1 autopilot, will tell you how that worked out on the next report. Ken
