Attempted to fish Saturday on the stilly below I-5, but for the first time down there this year, I was skunked.

I knew when I got there it was not going to pan out... but I was there, so I had to try. The water was major high with tons of debris of all sizes including whole trees floating down the river. The visibility in the water was zero, it was like mud. I saw some spawned out pinks along the edge of the water and other then the fins sticking out of the water you would not know they are there due to the muddy waters. The sand bar we normally fish on was gone, under water. For those who fish the spot east of I-5 under bridge along the sand bar you are aware of the trail out to the bar... well the first drop down off of the main trail we all know gets a large puddle of water after it rains but the water was actually quite a ways up that little trail. The second trail with the log you step over, it also had the edge of the river half way up that trail. So I walked down to the last drop down where the signs for the pipeline are at, the river was up to the grass with some small trees poking up out of the river.... the whole sand bar, every last bit of it was under water. That huge boulder/rock on the north side of the river that so many people cast their lines toward.... it was almost underwater.

So now that we have got rain to bring in the silvers, I hope it doesn't take to long for the river to calm down become good fishing again.
Have fun fishing!!!!!!!!

A buddy and I were planning to fish the Stilly this morning (Monday the 18th) but I knew the water would be high so yesterday I took made the short drive down to the Sylvana Bridge and confirmed the obvious. Oddly there were 4 guys casting from the rocks (the sand bar was gone) and like you said, there was debris, the water was very fast, and it was muddy. I hope the river gets back in to shape sooner than later.
