so i was fishing towards the mouth of the wallace, and the river was just blown out, and no visibility. i was talking to a guy and he said they had a public fishing place at the hatchery, but i never really wanted to fish up there for my own personal reasons and beliefs of fishing, but i decided to just drive up and check it out since i have not been fishing in 2 weeks because the rivers have been so messed up from the rain, but i parked at the hatchery and well lets just say i got a good laugh at the people there, there was about 30 guys elbow to elbow fishing there and it looked like a zoo, and if i read the regs right, i thought no one was allowed to fish 200' from the intake pipe of the hatchery, yet all these guys were literally right on top of the intake pipe and if your gonna fish like that, you mine as well go to a trout farm and pick out your fish, because its almost cheating because you know the fish have to run into your gear. but whatever, thats my belief, and im sure alot of other people will disagree, but not really fishing if you ask me, so i turned around and went home, so hopefully once this weather stops there will be some good winter steelheading and maybe some chums left in the rivers

i was headed to the mouth this morning to until i saw what the sultan river looked like. so my buddy and i just went straight up to the hatchery to see what was in the pens and couldnt believe what we saw. like you said it was a zoo. i guess i dont understand the concept of fishing at the gate of a hatchery.... whats the fun in that? but i guess thats just my opinion. so needless to say we had a nice drive up to the hatchery but was home by 930 am. hope the rivers calm down soon.

i feel the same way man fishing at the hatchery ain't really fishing. especially when your fishing corkies and yarn because the fish aren't even hitting it everyone is just line bumbing them. what a waste i can't believe those people call themselves fishermen

hanapaa808 try using a float with eggs. Fish can sometimes be thick and snagging one is likely with a corky. Eggs has done really well.

ya im with ya hannapa, not really a sport to fish in front of the intake gate, but whatever, and curado, you have to show me how to fish in that muddy of water. i was using a corky and yarn with pencil led and not getting a single thing on that river. maybe im going about it in the wrong way

Went out today and my son landed a monster silver on my six weight rod and i popped very nice Steelhead. Water was high but very fishable, As the day went on the river cleared up. Wish i had Monday off.

Why not fish at the intake all the fish going to the hatchery are meant for people to catch its why they have em most the fish this late are not going to be used for anything just left to die why not enjoy em after all you pay for those fish when u buy a license
