I arrived at the North Fork a little before 5am. The CFS was well over 11,000 and was way up from last week. I had to wade out a bit in the swift current to get to my hole. I fished for about 4 hours and felt nothing. I was using the same set up from last week, but with the water way up, I was having issues finding the right depth especially with the current so fast.

A local came over and asked me if the "boys" were frozen and asked if I wouldn't mind him joining me. I told him what the 411 was and he told me to take off my slip bobber and let it drift to the bottom.

I still didn't feel anything and of course I watch him in his first cast call out, "Fish on!" We both didn't have a net but having local knowledge, he took the fish to a flat spot on the river and beached it.

He rigged back up and showed me the correct way to drift my shrimp. And wouldn't you know it, "Fish on!!!" The take wasn't subtle at all, it was absolutely violent. The fish bent my rod and took out a bit of line. After a few minutes, Steelie number 2 for me banked and bonked.

I hung around for an hour or so watching this local hook into 2 more while I was there. He gave me some key info about this river and what to use for the next time I go here to try.
Until next time...

I've found that steelhead take eggs softly but shrimp trigger a much different response. There is nothing quite like getting a good side drift take and setting the hook, way to go!

Absolutely Awesome man ! Thanks for the info, I hit it yesterday, but only had one fish bend my hook.
I have issues when throwing a bobber with a bait caster. I've found the spinning reel to be just about perfect for floating in a shoulder to shoulder drift.....really sucks when you get a backlash with people all around you. but corkies and yarn is ideal for bait casting.....my experience. Let me know when the next outing is. I will get someone else to drive my tired but down next time :)

Next time I go down there, I'll take a picture of how many guys are fishing bobber/jig, pretty crazy.

Your not kidding, I've never seen that many poles dedicated to a bobber and jig. Of course, I'm new at teh steelhead hunting.

FP- Next time I head down I'll be sure to hook up with you.... I really don't mind driving, It's the 2 hr+ drive alone that drives me crazy.
I took the mustang this last time and it ran me about 30 bucks round trip... The f150 is a more practical choice but will run me about 50 bucks :)
