Me and my older son took the afternoon off and headed up to the Pend Orielle River. Put in at Cusick around 3 pm, windy, water temp low 60's and looked like the river was down about a foot. Headed down to a slough past Davis creek inlet and spent 2 hrs there, hooked quite a few LMB and had a nice Pike to the side of the boat but busted me off, and missed a couple more. Got tired of the wind so we headed up to Davis Creek and caught and missed some Pike and LMB, fish were pretty far in. Then took off up toward the shallows across from Usk and nailed a nice LMB, had another nice one to the side of the boat and busted me off, man I need to sharpen that hook! What was amazing is I caught all fish on the same lure! Weather was great, fishing was fantastic! Mosquito's are bad around sunset!

Great Job! Try using a steel wire leader, even if your using light line the leader will protect the line from their razor sharp teeth. All they have to do is just brush the line to break you off and it's usually the first 8" of line they get..

I was using a steel leader, they broke me off at the lure (didn't have them hooked well), I noticed that the main hook and the trailer that I was using wasn't too sharp and did not have a hook sharpener on the boat, but I will fix that issue, thanks for the advice.

Thanks Kevinb, also, forgot to mention the water level is going down fast, about a foot and a half in one week! We went into Davis creek on fathers day, the outlying grassy area's were flooded, water was clear, last night the water was stained coffee color, stinky and about a foot and a half lower. I know this by that darn metal fence post I nailed last week with the bottom of my boat, almost knocked me out of the boat! I think most fish are moving out towards the grassy area's off the main part of the river, ran out of daylight to check out the sloughs north of Cusick...

iliv2fish- I see your Bass posts everywhere i look & always enjoy them. That's a great Pend Oreille River LM. I used to fish it every weekend when i was a teenager. On the Newport side of Rat & Kelly islands there are a lot of pilings by the railroad tracks that rarely get fished. The pilings around Usk usually get pounded, but thankfully there's hundreds of em' & nobody could possibly hit em' all. My biggest LM ever came out of the Pend Oreille, she was just over 8 lbs caught her under a ski dock in 2 feet of water, thought i was wrapped in the anchor rope that was attached to a five gallon bucket of concrete. but when i saw a green/white flash & knew i'd hooked a nice one, what a blast!! I'll never forget that fish. P.S. Keep Up The Great Posts. > My posts are usually under Pat Perez. He's my partner & always seems to beat me to posting reports. - William Krels
