Went to reiter today, got to the rier about ten, as the early birds were leaving. The weather was nice, but the water was low. Guys were there in force, the parking lot at the hatchery was filled.

So I see my drift, nobody's fishin it. Haaha, I move straight in, and make a cast right to where the fish live. First cast, about 15 seconds in, BOBBER DOWN!!! It was awesome, guys were jealous. 5 pounds on the dot, bright winter chrome. I moved through and tried a couple of spots, and no luck, so I moved down river.

fished at the Big eddy and Bobber DOWN again! This one was three times bigger, caught the current, had 'im on for about ten minutes, but he ended up diving and wrapping around a boulder and snapped the line. But it was a thrill for a while. Same pink jig, never used that brand, got them at Sky Valley Traders on the way out, I've never seen 'em before. It was pretty awesome, it rained a bit and the temp hovered between 33 and 32 because it was snow half the time and rain the other half.

While at reiter there were about ten fish brought to shore, including the five the guy who lended me his net said he saw, so I call it. Winter Steel is IN and only gonna get better.

Nice fish. How exactly do you get to Reiter? Do you have to park on Hwy 2 or is there some road you have to turn onto?

You get there by following Reiter Road and then turning down the hatchery road after the gravel pit, it's easy, just google maps it. Normally I'm the early guy, but I had to do some stuff with the wife this morning, so I was late.

You were right across the river from me. We were joking about that little trout net wondering if you were going to be able to fit that steelie in there. It was the 1st action we'd seen in an hour or so, so it boosted our moral a little. Nice fight you had there.

Yea, I didn't bring my net down that time, I carried my camera down instead. I was a little worried about the net size too, but he was a little guy. I borrowed it from the guy next to me. If it had been a bigger fish I would have waited and done something more serious. The trick at Reiter, or so I've found, is to either wait for more fish to show up, or show 'em what you got and move around a bunch. Because the fish will hit it on the first or second drift that it goes by 'em if they're there. I don't much like sitting still all day, unless the fish are stacked in at fantastical numbers.

My wife and I just cooked up a piece of it tonight and man, I missed that taste. Best tasting river fish EVER. Fried up some onions with some spices, and poached the fish in it, it was too real. Beats any salmon IMO.
