Went down to the Cowlitz to get in on the b-run action, which is slow at the moment. As with everytime you go out, when you talk to the guys on the river they will tell you, "should have been here last weekend" because that's when the fish were biting.

Started at barrier, saw that there had been a couple springers caught and saw a couple rollers, but we only stayed an hour or so. It was really slow, but this early in the season you can't complain right? A couple steel were caught while I was there, but I really hate bobber fishing, it bores me, so we went down to blue creek.

The water was really warm, and everybody on the flats had gotten skunked all day, at least the guys that were still there by the time we got there. The weather was perfect, I caught a sunburn. The water was really warm, so I figured the fish would be hanging out in the faster more oxygenated water, and the mild hike to the mouth was worth it. Got down to the spot and atfter a half hour I had my first fish on, which stuck for all of ten seconds. Another half hour and I got the hook stuck on a lively fish, it'd been in the river a while, but fought admirably. Felt like he was about ten pounds bigger, but that's only the faster water talking. Pulled him into the shallows and one of the guys offered to net it for me. It was about seven pounds. But we'd been fishing all day and only stayed for about an hour and a half, left and got lunch.

The action isn't fast, but there are fish around. The guys in boats are doing well, fish the faster water and you'll be throwing at fish. Saw a couple holding the edge by the trail, and a couple guys coming up from the point with a springer or two. All in all it was a great day for fishing. Color of choice was two # 12 corkies in glitter pink.

Been a few years since I've been down there. Just as I remembered it too, trash lying all over the ground.
