8/15/2011 5:08:00 AMWE were using 5 and 6 oz weights, it would drift for a little will until it found the soft current seam that the salmon were holding in.

8/15/2011 7:54:00 AMBeginner question here. Red yarn seems to be noted a lot in these fishing posts. I bought some last year, however never used it because I actually don't know how to use it. How do you utilize the red yarn?

8/15/2011 6:09:00 PMBring anywhere from 2 to 8oz weight, I fish the Skagit quite a bit and it just depends on the amount of current. It changes almost daily and dam releases can even effect current, even down close to the mouth the tide will effect the current speed. Start with 2-4 oz then if it doesn't hold, go up. Just remember you don't have to cast out to the middle where I see some people doing. These fish will travel where there is the least amount of resistance or close to shore where the current isn't as fast and hard. The Skagit has been running a little high for this time of year because of the long winter and snow pack didn't melt as fast this year. My buddy and I joke all the time about "Isn't it funny that when we are fishing out of a boat and we are casting towards shore," Whats the point of this expensive boat anyhow?" :) Happy Fishing!

8/16/2011 5:32:00 AMtgrbear11, I tie my own bait loop hooks so I will usually add a little tuft of yarn to the hook by the eyelet before I start wraping the hook shank with the line.

8/16/2011 6:27:00 PMInot only fish it often and own a boat. I also live on the skagit. With in reach of the tide. So anything less then a 8oz right now with this current will bounce you into other peoples lines. So be respectfull and plunk right. Stick it right away and they can't drag allot of weight around for that long thus losing allot of fish to light weights......
