Well, my dad heard how good I whave been doing on the Puke so he wanted a fishing lesson, and we met up at six at the river. The tide was later which screwd up the runs upstream, so there were only two or three big pushes of fish. The rest were just the stragglers. But I managed a limit by 9 AM and my dad hooked and crackered two.

We kept fishing while I tutored my pops into getting fish, and he did end up playing one big buck to the net which made my day. I C&Red until it was time to go, my dad stayed a little while longer, I don't know if he got any after I left.

But I guess it's not just the right bait and being there at the right time, you gotta have the right method and the only cure for that is experience. I did give some pointers to the guy getting skunked below me, I fished with him yesterday and limited and he got skunked, he drove to sportco when it opened and came back with the stuff and ended up bagging two before I left.

After the bite died down we drove upstream to check out the upper river, and the fish just aren't there yet. Go low for fun times.

nate- just for accuracy we are supposed to stop fishing after keeping our limit but you can bag 3 and keep C&Ring (at least in this particular fishery, although as you noted about the Skok things vary). Good job out there mister getting your Dad on fish :-) I MIGHT try and make it out Sunday but boy I gotta have a little luck slide my way to do that (fingers crossed).

I was skunked while people around me caught them all day. I don't have feeling in my fingers or hands so I'm pretty much SOL I think. I tried different weights, different areas, the one fish I did on the line was because my friend hooked it on for me.

Good to know many others have luck, I saw over 100 fish being pulled out all around me throughout the 10 hours I was there with friends (they limited out) sad to say, but I won't be going back... No point.

@knot yea, I just looked it up. Whoops. I won't do that again.

@creation it just takes skill and practice. If you're not catching fish using the same gear that your buddies were limiting out on, it means you have to try and do what they're doing. It's a knack and a talent that can only come from practice and experience. Don't give up on 'em, these are some of the easiest fish to catch. Although trying a river with more visibility like the snoho might give you an easier target.

How do you feel the fish, when you can't feel at all? The only thing I can do is watch the tip of the rod. I can't feel any vibrations or pulls, unless it pulls my arm in a whole. My friends were trying to help me figure out a way, but nothing worked.

Think if you had a dead hand, that you could hit, stab, burn, and not feel a thing. That's my hands, I am pretty lucky that they are still functional and I can grab things, my nails have feeling so when I cast I use the tips of my thumb to put pressure on the line. I was trying to do it by watching the pole twitch, and as the two guys down from me put it "you can't catch em like that, you need to feel the fish".

Thanks for the encouragement though.

When a fish hits it it usually just feel like the weight picks up off bottom and gets a little heavier that is when you set the hook. Thats about all there is too it

@Creation most of the pinks you really dont need to set the hook just a little tug will do the job pinks mouth are soft..and pinks usally pull the lure so fast you dont need to jerk or nothing and dont give up that easy ive been fishing rivers for a while and have got skunked many times but now im getting better just keep trying bro you'll get one soon and if your gonna try the puyallup heres a awesome site tells you what to use and everything http://fishingthepuyallup.blogspot.com/

If your having problems feeling them try this. Cast and keep your rod tip low then slowly raise up on the tip you should have increased action on the tip and rod with that. When your rod tip is up bring it back down and rest it a sec and pull up slow again. Hope that helps ya. Makes pink fishing easier.

Hey Creation...have you tried bobber and egg or jig? The bobber will tell you when you have something on there.
You have to pick a place where it won't interfere with how others are fishing though.

You can find lots of info by googling and there are even some u-tubes on it.
I've been giving it a try more often this year, without luck so far, but I know many do have luck with it.
