Went fishing at the fork by the spud plant in the morning and left mid afternoon. We had four people on the boat so we fished with four poles. Two poles we did sand shrimp and almost right away we got nibbles. When the nibbles stoped we pulled on the line a little and they stared back up. Eventually the salmon hooked themselves and we caught 3 with sand shrimp. A spin and glow pink in color seems to work the best. The other poles we did pink wicked willies. On one pole we had a full size wicked willie and on the other we had a medium size wicked willie. The medium size wicked willie caught four fish. Funny thing was we changed from the full size on the other pole to another medium willie but never had a bite. We even tried a wells special and a fst but still nothing. That pole was closer to the sand bar under water so maybe thats why. So we ended up with 7 which is respectable for the short time we were on the river. Of course we did lose a few even with our lose drags but that is to be expected with pinks.

just a heads up on the "nibbles".....Someone a week or two ago posted the same thing and I was going to comment, but tight on time....

I had the same experience the last couple pink runs in the skagit. I would go out there, plunk sand shrimp, score a couple pinks, and miss a dozen or two "nibbles". For the life of me, I could not figure out why I could only hook 1 in 8 "pinks". Finally, i got smart. Throw on a much smaller hook and find out what these nibbles are. One assumes that only pinks are in the river, and if a fish bites, it must be a pink. Well, not always the case. The river is loaded with suckers. when fishing with bait (sand shrimp for example) the suckers will "nibble" your sand shrimp right off. If it is a light nibble, more than likely a river sucker. If it is a real take down, salmon. Really not a problem overall, either go to artificials or just buy extra sand shrimp! Have fun, stay safe, respect others!!!
