I made it to my usual spot at 0800. There was a guy fishing just downstream that I saw had one male humpy. I got set up and first cast... Fish on! He looked surprised and all I said was "when you're lucky, you don't have to be good." It was a nice hen pink. Cast after next, another pink, this time a male that was released. The guy's wife told her husband he better switch to what I was using. I lost a half dozen more before he left. The great part was that no matter how many times I tried to make conversation this guy ignored me. I couldn't believe it, but I guess the fish spoke for themselves.

I left at 1000 with my limit of pinks, having released 5 and lost at least 15. Tomorrow I'm going to try some different tactics on advice from fellow WAlakers to try to get a silver or two.

How do you get the old pinks to bite?

@Snake, I don't believe I'm flossing them, they're hitting on their own as far as I can tell. The meat started to really turn on them the last couple days, I'm no longer keeping any.

Nice job, yooper! It is always cool when you can put on a clinic. lol

@snake: What's your proof he's flossing? Your claim is baseless and he wasn't even using a corkie. Check your hate at the gate. Sheesh! If you're ribbin' him jokingly, then I apologize that I misconstrued your intent.

@markhill: I would guess instinct. I've seen it myself. I made a short cast once with a marabou jig and it rest on the bottom in clear view. As I was making an adjustment to my reel an old pink came from out of nowhere and made a bee line toward the jig. I was thinking, "What the...!? Really?!" It nipped the lead head and did a 180, missing the hook completely. It was a humped humpie. No reason or logic, but it did what it did.
