I wasn't going to post anymore reports on coho because I didn't think I would top the other silvers that I caught but I just caught a silver just over 14 pounds confirmed at hook line and sinker. Biggest one I've caught for the season so far. The other silver looks like a minnow compared to this one. I've caught alot in the 12 pound range but very seldom in the teens. Catching a silver in the teens is like catching a tyee it doesn't happen everyday.
Well I've made a decent effort to photo most of the fish i've caught so that you can enjoy them and maybe one day i'll have one of these photos on salmon and steelheader. Thanks again to the friendly bankies out there. Was fun fishing with Billy with his boys the salmon slaying crew and Anthony. Nick Amato if you are reading this I've got plenty of great pictures!!
At the season still peaking I must say i've had my full with salmon...silvers specifically but it never does get old. That initial take, to setting the hook, then feeling the big head shakes, to the scream of your reel peeling out from the drag, and the areal acrobatic jumps just make your heart stop for a second and finally that sigh of relief when the fish is banked or netted. It couldn't have been any better today. That lunker was hooked right inside the mouth with an orange corky and flame red UV yarn(secret bait).
Yeah there's plenty of fish for everyone out there. A size 10 corky with a number 2 sized hook with about an inch of yarn will drift perffectly in the strike zone. Smaller is better for silvers, usually too heavy of a hook will cause your set up to sink under the fish. Coho will suspend off the bottom. so you will hook the fish in the anus with too much weight. I used a 4 foot leader with 3/8th ounce of weight. That set up will drift perfectly in the dirty high colored water we've been getting in the slots where the silvers were holding. Most fish have been caught in the mouth with that set up because it drifts in the strike zone. Only put enough weight to tap bottom once in a while and whatever you feel that doesn't feel like bottom set the hook because you'll get rewarded with a fish one out of 7 times that it's not a snag.
Some people avoid the snags but I look for them because the silvers like wood and structure. I've lost dozens of corkies and yarn out there. A couple bucks of gear in exchange for huge silvers seems like a great deal to me.
Anyway it's been an awesome season and hopefully more FISH ONS!!!

I am jealous! I'll look for the photo, great description. I've reverted to little planters cause I felt like I couldn't catch anything.... but I think I'll be back at it, on the Stilly in just a few days.

Tight Lines!
