Well, many tries at catching my first keeper salmon and finally success. I have been trying since August to land one and after 15 minutes along comes my first salmon that I wanted to keep. Within the 15 minutes I had caught 3 Humpies and let them go and the fourth hit was Mr. Coho.
A decent size silver in color and about 7 pounds. I was so excited I packed up my stuff and went home to celebrate. Now I realize that I need to learn the next skill.......how to filet a salmon.

Look at a good video and go slow. Proper sharp knife will obviously help. Congrats on your first Coho. Way to go!!!

Nice work nailing your first 'HO! Sure are fun, huh! They are stacked heavy now as far up as Foss River/Tye/Beckler....and even rushed up so fast some clean chromers right after huge rains/snow. Can't keep, but they are still fun to float over in wetsuit and mask/fins!

Congrats - still waiting for my first Coho - I know how you used to feel. For fillet, get a sharp fillet knife (I recommend a nice moderate Rapala finnish knife) and go to YouTube and look at a few videos. You can do it - it is fun.
