This morning we headed out to Dosewallips to do some spring trout fishing. I used to catch steelhead here when I was a kid but these days many say they have all gone. Well, today we may have proved them wrong.
We arrived about noon, the river was clean n clear but roaring. A little rain and glaciel melt makes for tough fishin! My buddy was bouncing a pink worm and I was tossing a #3 blue fox, both barbless. We hooked a few nice rainbows in the 12 - 15" range. After a few hours of walking around we found a slow spot. The 2nd cast, my buddy gets a fish on! We bring it up, I'd say about 18-20" and maybe 3lbs. Is it a Steelhead or Rainbow?! You decide! We looked at him for a few seconds, snapped a quick pic and set him free so I guess we'll never know.

Apparently, I am not supposed to post a wild steelhead pictured out of the water, but a summer-run in the dosewallips should not exist so I guess it was a big Rainbow. Who knows!

That fish looks like it has a good number of cutthroat genes in it. That mouth is simply too big for a rainbow and the coloring is not right either.

Yeah G-Man, definitely looks like a sea-run cutty to me too. Very nice fish though, I always thought my friend was messing around when he said there's some big trout in the Dose when he hikes up there.

Cutthroat is what I first said but there was NO slash under the jaw.... so that threw us off, now I see the spotting and jawbone are that of a cutty.
