Salmon and Steelhead are in the same Genus: Oncorhynchus (Pacific salmon). Dogs, Humpies, King, Coho, Reds, Steelies. All except Reds are in the Sky. Lucky for us, all 6 cruise the Skagit. I think the Skagit might be the only river in western USA to have all 6.

To answer tsath24's question, it would most likely be a chinook/king that was released. Coho/silvers, chum/dogs, and humpy/pinks (odd years) don't show up till the fall. Summer steelheading should be getting better as we get closer to July with some summer chinook/kings mixed in the Snohomish river system.

Wow never heard of steelhead called a salmon before. Rainbow trout get pretty big when they go to the salt water (steelhead). Same with sea run cutthroat,Those aren't salmon either by the way. Most everything get big when they go to the salt water. Just saying.

They are however a Salmonoid not to be confused with Salmon. Each have there own species name, unlike the steelhead which is Oncorhynchus mykiss and say the Chinook salmon which is Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, Confused? Lol.
