Fished the Samish by Boe rd on opening day starting about 6AM. I knew it was a long shot, but what if there happened to be some unpressured fish in there? ;). Anyways, I had some BIG, juicy (fire cured) eggs from a 45lb hen I had caught in Alaska a couple weeks ago and threw a little less than a pound of them into the river. We did catch a HUGE (3 inch lol) bull trout on them but nothing in the way of salmon.

While we were there we ran into a couple different groups of people, all of whom were very nice (but not all of whom practiced the newly instated "bait must be suspended by float" rule). Nobody saw any fish rolling (not even a wake at low tide). I suppose it will be another couple weeks before we start seeing consistent catch reports. Still enjoyed the weather, river and fields; it was good to see those wheat fields again. Tight lines,

-BC

Whats the deal with access this year? Is it still 100$ to fish the meat hole?? Cant wait for the tickets to start flying for those not following the new rule...

The new rule states that all baits/lures (yes, corky or yarn) must be suspended by float. So, you can't just hold your rod out with a weight and a corky floating your hook waiting for a fish to run into it any longer. One question that I need to look up the answer to is whether or not bobber doggin (or FF float/drift method) is legal since you aren't really suspending it with a float since it is dragging along bottom. Since low tide produces almost no current in more areas, people will just anchor a corky in their favorite hole and stick a bobber somewhere on their line. I'd bet money,

@bcustom1 - Where did you find the new rule? I've searched the regs and online and can't find any reference.

@bcustom1 - Thank you. Appreciate the info. Didn't realize it was specific to the Samish River. I was looking under "Statewide Rule Changes" and "Statewide General Rules"...etc. Always want to make sure I'm following the regs when I hit the river. Tight lines!
